Guy Fawkes’ Mother (Drama)

25th October 2024 Remember, Remember: A Mother’s Grief

The year is 1612. King James of Scotland reigns over England, and the Gunpowder Plot conspirators are long dead. As the kingdom celebrates November 5th, commemorating the narrow escape of King and Parliament from the infamous 1605 plot, one voice remains silent amidst the bonfires, bell-ringing, and sermons.

Who speaks for Guy Fawkes’ mother?

In a nation torn apart, where half the population views the other with contempt, an act of terrorism has left the country reeling. Amidst the chaos, the story of one middle-aged woman goes unheard. She is the mother of England’s most notorious terrorist, and her tale demands to be told.

Echoing the divisions of modern Brexit Britain, this powerful one-woman show embodies a nation’s pain through the eyes of a grieving mother. As a minority, a woman, middle-aged, and Roman Catholic, her voice has been marginalized. But isn’t hers the story we need to hear?

“Guy Fawkes’ Mother,” written and performed by Rose Bruford graduate Heather Leech, is a compelling hour-long journey through history. Based on real characters and events, it explores the anguish of Guy Fawkes’ mother – as a woman, a parent, and a persecuted Roman Catholic in a time of national upheaval.

Join us for this thought-provoking performance, followed by a live Q&A session with the cast and director.

Uncover the hidden story behind the infamous plot. Remember, remember the 5th of November – from a perspective you’ve never considered before.
